IFC is an International Organization (ISO) standard (ISO 10303, parts 21 & 28 and ISO PAS 16739). The Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) data model is a neutral and open specification that is not controlled by a singular vendor or group of vendors.
The IFC model is an object-oriented data model based on class definitions representing the things (elements, processes, shapes, etc.) that are used by software applications during a construction or facility management Workspace.
An IFC model file stores the description of the real life objects in the IFC data schema.
