Refer the following Table for different search operators for Document Content Search:

Searches within these file types only:  PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, PPT, HTML, HTM, PHP, ASP, JSP, PSP, TXT

Exact Word

Search is for exact Word only

If we search with Comment, document having Comments will not displayed

Phrase searches

Quotation marks "" around search terms denotes searching for exact matching text

Double quotes should be in even numbers otherwise it will return 0 result in document listing.

Boolean operator “AND”, "&&"

Searches documents containing all the words specified

"AND" to be entered in Upper case and cannot be the first or last characters in the search phrase

"+" sign

Searches for all the required words if user enters “+ “sign.

(Users need to use a space before “+ “sign in the search terms).
Cannot be the last character in query string

"!", "-" sign

Excludes the word succeeding "-", "!" sign

(Users need to enter a space before “-“sign in the search term).
Cannot be the last character in query string

Boolean  operator “OR”,"||"

System searches for either of the words / terms specified

"OR" should be specified in upper case. Cannot be the last character in query string

Numrange search

Searches and displays list of documents containing numbers in a given range. 

Range is two numbers, separated by "TO". Supports units of measurement or indicators of what the number range represents 
Supported values:
Number ranges
Units of Measurements (Length, Area, Volume, Temperature)
Currency (UK, US, European, Asian),
Year & Dates
Time

"*" asterisk mark

Substitutes the "*" with word or phrase

Searches for eg. Date to substitute the "*" in "tender submitted for BAA by*"  search phrase

 * cannot be prepended to the word or cannot be the only character word for search, will ignore it while searching otherwise

Search within Filename/Header/Footer

Searches for the word or phrase specified in header / footer / filename too by default

 

Single wild card search "?"

Substitutes the "?" with a character

Cannot be the first character in the query string

Grouping

User can use parentheses to group clauses to form sub queries
Eg. If user enters (Wood OR Iron) AND desk in the query, search queries for the condition that desk must exist and either term wood or iron may exist.

Both - Opening and closing parentheses mandatory for correct results

Escaping Special Characters

We can use special characters + - && || ! ( ) { } [ ] ^ " ~ * ? : \ as literal character and not as a part of query syntax by escaping them using \ before the character.

Cannot be the last character in the query string.
For example, if user enters query term like \"Execute\", then it will search for the word "Execute" including the opening and closing quote.

Password Protected Files

Password protected Excel files with protect workbook for windows option selected, can be indexed

Following files can be indexed.

Following files
cannot be indexed.
