Version 2.0 of Asite Project Workflow includes roll-out of Single Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to ALL users rather than just for specific PWF instances. Asite Servers use 128 bit encryption using a certificate that is automatically accepted by the Microsoft Internet Explorer as it is authenticated by Global Certification Authority (Geotrust). Applets and ActiveX Controls (see section 3.4) are similarly authenticated by a Global Certification Authority (Thawte), thereby making the update process seamless for end users.
Asite Project Workflow now uses Asynchronous Java and XML (AJAX) technology to render results on the client PC. AJAX is being used to create a new breed of dynamic web-applications such as Google Maps and Google Suggest.
Traditional collaboration tools require the server to gather data (i.e. lists of documents) and a presentation layer (i.e. style sheets, icons etc) to create a web page which is then sent to the user. With AJAX, PWF Version 2.0 works asynchronously, so only the data is sent to the user and the pages are created directly on their PC. The result is a dramatic reduction in the time it takes to bring back results from the server as the data volume is decreased, making waiting a thing of the past.
Requirement for Installation of Asite Certificate is removed
Requirement for Temporary Internet Files (in Internet Explorer) to be set to "Every Visit to the page" is removed
Viewing a file for the first time in the Brava Viewer will result in the following:
Users will be prompted to accept the certificate for updating the Brava Applet (AsiteViewer.jar).
Once accepted, the applet will be downloaded and placed in the Java Cache Folder of Sun JVM automatically by Internet Explorer
(Note: The dll files previously downloaded with PWF 1.4 will still be used and hence will not be updated.)
If “Extract Files on Download” is selected when downloading a file (or when setting up User Preference), the following will happen
Users will be prompted to accept the certificate for updating the Download Applet
Once accepted, the applet will be downloaded and placed in the Java Cache Folder of Sun JVM automatically by Internet Explorer
Clicking on the “View” button from “Use Services” page will result in the following
Users will be prompted to accept the certificate for updating the IT Configuration Applet (PCConfig.jar)
Once accepted, the applet will be downloaded and placed in the Java Cache Folder of Sun JVM automatically by Internet Explorer
Notes
1. Updating above mentioned applets DOES NOT require Administration rights on local machine.
2. Clicking on “Always” option when prompted with a certificate will ensure that similar prompts do not happen for current as well as any other applet signed by Asite.
The Upload ActiveX Controls are now signed using a new certificate that does not require users to install the Asite Root Certificate.
Above change will be visible to new users only and all existing users will be able to work as usual and not receive any prompts.
